Welcome back! I hope you have enjoyed My Favorite Things series so far. I would like to conclude this series with one more favorite thing… reading books! In this post I’ll talk about some of my favorite books, maybe you’ll want to try a few.
Grab a Book
You might feel like you never have the time to read, or maybe it just sounds like another school project. But reading is such a great way to relieve stress and take a break. I read because it is relaxing and it helps take my mind off something. And the best part about reading is a trip to the bookstore.
While reading is one of my favorite things, the worst part about it is choosing a book to read. It’s hard to find just the right one, but luckily the bookstore is there! At the bookstore, you can look at all your options and even scan a few pages for yourself. I love when you walk out with a new novel in your hands. And at some bookstores there is a Starbucks (Bonus!).
My Top 3 Reads That You Are Guaranteed to Love
These books are some of my favorites, and I say “some” because I don’t want to discredit books that aren’t on this list (because it’s hard to pick just 3). But these books are the go-to reads and just all around phenomenal stories. I wanted to share these with you in case you might be struggling to find an interesting book.
WARNING: I am going to do my best to avoid any major spoilers, but I will describe the plot a little more than the summary. I won’t tell you how any books end.
1. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand (Young Adult Edition)
Unbroken is at the top of my list because it is truly phenomenal. I saw the trailer on TV and decided I would read the book first (because in my opinion books are always better than movies). One of the reasons I was drawn to the book was because it is a true story. Also, the main character Louie is a runner.
The book talks about Louie’s journey from being an Olympic level track athlete, to an air force solder in World War II, to a castaway, and then a captive. The author did an especially good job adapting the it for young adults; the book wasn’t too heavy or intense for a teen read. I loved this book because I was blown away that it was a true story. Some of the experiences Louie had are truly shocking; to say this story is inspiring is an understatement. It was moving and really changed my perspective on the meaning of strength and will.
2. A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
A Walk to Remember is another one of my favorite books because I could reread it over and over and over. What I really loved about the story was the characters. The story is told from Landon Carter’s perspective, a teenager who thinks he’s too cool for school. He meets this girl Jamie, who is the preacher’s daughter and is generous and warm-hearted. When Landon is desperate for a homecoming date and has to be the lead role in the school’s Christmas play, he confronts Jamie and kind of wants to spend as little time with her as possible.
Ultimately, he finds the value of her generosity, kindness, and heartbreaking secret. I liked how this was not a typical love story with love at first sight or anything cheesy. But I really loved the character Jamie. She was able to help Landon become more thankful and see the value of family, friends, and the hidden pleasures of everyday life. She had a constant positive attitude, bright outlook, and genuine compassion. She inspired me to appreciate everything more. She makes happiness seem simple and effortless due to her thankfulness and kind spirit.
3. The Divergent Series by Verinca Roth
It might be hard to talk about how amazing this book is because the final book in the series left a shocking ending, which I promised I wouldn’t spoil. But this series is about a teenager named Tris who lives in a rigid society divided by factions. She is called Divergent, and does not fit in to any one faction. Throughout the series she figures out just what it means to be Divergent, what the point behind the factions really is, and what her and her friends can do to change society. This series is a quick read, an instant page turner.
Write Your Own Story
Just like any good book, this series is coming to a close. I love reading because fiction is full of adventure, freedom, and unexpected plot twists. A book enables you to be a part of a new journey, immersed in the story with the characters. While this new journey is an exciting break from reality, your own story awaits in real life. You can create adventures, meet new people, and we all know that the unexpected parts are inevitable. I would like to thank you for reading My Favorite Things Series.
I would like to leave you with some song lyrics that I think connect to this post and inspired the title of my blog site:
“There you stand, ten feet tall, and I will say ‘I knew it all along’. Your eyes are wider than distance. This life is sweeter than fiction.” – Taylor Swift “Sweeter than Fiction”
